Social questionnaires are designed to help social scientists and sociologists in studying and understanding social life.  Though many different methods are used to study social life, questionnaires are a popular way of studying social phenomena on a larger scale.  They are much sought after as there is minimum intervention by the researching agency in influencing the results.

Social questionnaires fall into the Quantitative method of gathering social data.  Though this method can be used to collect data of only fewer variables, the wide reach it can have, makes it an attractive option.  They are commonly used along with other types of surveys.

While designing social questionnaires, it is important to keep the language simple, as it would be administered to a varied demographic group.  It is best to avoid embarrassing and non-relevant questions.  The questionnaire must have an introduction to state the purpose of this research.  This helps the reader to be more forthcoming with the required information.

Generally, these questionnaires are administered to voluntary groups of people.  Privacy, anonymity and confidentiality are given utmost importance while collating the data.  At no point in future, should the integrity be compromised.  While administering these questionnaires, it is imperative to give such an assurance to the respondents.
