What is a Survey

A Survey is a productive tool which helps in collecting information related to quantitative research, market, property, organization, academics etc.  This helps in accumulating constructive feedback from the targeted section of the population depending on which the assessor decides the proceedings to be done with the concern matter. It is a comprehensive approach and helps to fulfill the intended purpose profusely. Thus, to conduct an effective survey, it is important to design a relevant and useful document that would be essentially purpose-based. To do so, certain factors have to be followed strictly. Some of those are as follows-

  • Prior formulating the survey, it is essential to realize its objective and understand the factors that need special emphasis. This is beneficial for developing a standard set of questions.
  • As surveys are generally targeted for a broad range of people; therefore, it is essential to keep it in concise form. In order to do so, one can use multiple choice questions that would seek for specific and exact answers from a set of options.
  • One must essentially identify who should fill the particular survey in order to fulfill the purpose.  This is because; a narrower frame of reference helps in identifying the questions that are needed to be put forward.
  • It is always advisable to use lucid language without making it full of verbiage. This is because; the surveys are generally drafted targeting people from various strata of the society with different levels of understandability. Moreover, prolixity of such document generally tends to lose its essentially.
  • The questions must be categorized according to its level of importance and drafted from general to the specific ones. This helps the surveyor to achieve a particular consensus effectively.
  • A rating scale used for a particular survey document should be consistent throughout for all kind of questions that generally seeks for rating of any items.
